Pride and Prejudice Character Map

Jane Austen's ability to portrait characters is undoubtedly outstanding. In this post I want to focus on how Jane Austen relates each character to another in order to make the story a unit.


In the picture below, you can see a visual representations of this:

When I made this image the ideia was to organize the characters considering the level of importance that each one plays in the story.

The main characters are in the middle center of the image, Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy. Notice that their names are also written in bold letters.

Basically all the other characters exist because of their relation with one of them at least.

These relationships are represented by the arrows and the distance between the characters. Some of them are in smaller letters because the minor role they played in the story.


The principal ideia here is to observe and to identify how Jane Austen was able to distribute the characters, keeping in mind their personalities and their relationships.
